Rosacea

Rosacea is a common long-term skin condition that causes facial redness, visible blood vessels, and sometimes acne-like bumps. It typically affects the cheeks, nose, chin, and forehead, and can flare up for weeks or months before calming down again.

While there’s no cure, treatment can significantly reduce symptoms, improve how the skin looks and prevent progression.

How do I know if it's Rosacea?

Common Signs of Rosacea

  • Persistent flushing or blushing in the central face
  • Visible veins (especially on the cheeks and nose)
  • Pus-filled bumps that may resemble acne
  • Burning or stinging sensation on the skin
  • Dry, red, irritated eyes (Ocular Rosacea – affects up to 50% of patients)
  • Thickened skin on the nose (Rhinophyma – more common in men)

Diagnosis

Rosacea is usually diagnosed based on your medical history and a skin examination. In rare cases, a biopsy may be suggested to rule out other skin conditions like lupus, seborrheic dermatitis, or contact dermatitis.

Treatment Options

Skincare Regime:
Rosacea-prone skin is often sensitive, so a gentle and targeted skincare plan is essential. Common recommendations include:

  • Daily broad-spectrum sunscreen
  • Vitamin C serum
  • Niacinamide or Vitamin B5 gel
  • A soothing moisturiser
  • Alpha-hydroxy acids (e.g. lactic or mandelic acid) – introduced slowly

Prescription Treatments:
Our doctors may prescribe some of the following:

  • Topical creams or gels
  • Oral antibiotics for inflammatory flare-ups
  • Roaccutane (Isotretinoin) in severe, treatment-resistant cases

Chemical Peels:
Gentle peels like lactic or mandelic acid can help smooth skin, reduce inflammation, and support moisture balance. For more severe cases, peels like TCA or Modified Jessner’s may be used to reduce pustules and improve overall skin quality.

Secret RF:
This radiofrequency microneedling treatment stimulates collagen production, helping to strengthen the skin and stabilise blood vessels. It’s typically done in 3 sessions, 2 weeks apart.
