Mole screening
Early detection, expert care at our London clinic, speak to one of our skin cancer experts today
Worried about a mole or skin lesion or just want to make sure your skin is healthy?
Our expert team of doctors offer professional mole screening using advanced tools such as dermoscopy — a specialised technique that allows for a close, detailed examination of moles and medical expertise to detect signs of skin cancer early — when it’s most treatable.
We look for irregularities in size, shape, colour, border and texture that might signal concern.
At Adare Dermatology, your mole screening includes:
- Full skin check
- Expert assessment using dermoscopy
- Immediate advice on any concerning lesions
- Biopsy or removal if needed
- Histology (lab analysis)
- Referral for further treatment if necessary
This comprehensive, one-stop service is designed to give you confidence and clarity about your skin health.
Why does it matter?
Skin cancer is one of the most common cancers worldwide, and early detection significantly improves outcomes and should be seen as part of your regular preventative health.
If you have many moles, fair skin, or a family history of skin cancer it can be life-saving.
Look out for these changes:
If you notice any of the following, it’s important to have your skin checked by a doctor or dermatologist:
- Bleeding, crusting or itching moles – especially if they haven’t been picked, scratched, or irritated by clothing.
- New or changing moles – a new mole that looks unusual, or a mole that’s growing or changing in shape, colour, or border.
- Uneven colour – moles with multiple shades (brown, black, red, pink or white) can be a warning sign.
- Irregular borders – healthy moles tend to have smooth, even edges.
- Larger than usual – most moles are no wider than a pencil eraser (about 6mm). Rapid growth or large size should be assessed.
- Persistent skin patches – red, flaky, itchy or tender areas that don’t heal or aren’t linked to known conditions like eczema.
- Sores or lumps that don’t go away – any uncomfortable skin lesion lasting more than a few weeks without a clear cause should be reviewed as there may be a reason why it’s not behaving.
